Vance & Hines: 1993 Was a Great Year -- Daytona & Catalog

Recently I have ripped a few old VHS tapes and uploaded them to YouTube. One of them was a 1993 tape from Yamaha featuring Eddie Lawson and Scott Russell's impressive battle at the 1993 Daytona 200. All of those flashes of the iconic yellow and magenta lead me to dig out an old VHR catalog and snap a few pics.

We used to screen the video embedded below in the showroom at our dealership. It was great to see it again while ripping. Maybe you'll like it. Runtime is only 28mins as it has been somewhat condensed by Yamaha. I purposely put the video embed at the bottom so you'll have to at least scroll past all of the pics first before watching Eddie and Scott go at it. It distracted me to "test" it for the third time while doing this post so I thought it best.

Remember the Vance & Hines Limited Edition FZR600? Production of just over 600 of them if I recall correctly.

1992 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7 & ZX7R Brochure + Extra

The second and final year for the "J" and "K" models. Here are the 1992 ZX750-J2 ZX7 and ZX750-K2 ZX7R Ninja sportbikes. Check out the USA brochure first and then below I have some additional info.

Kawasaki may have not really offered us a very good pic of the ZX7R on the brochure again this year but at some point they had one to use on the Kawasaki Good Times Credit mailer.

Also, during the course of reviewing my brochures a bit I discovered something. While not offered in the USA, in Canada the 1992 ZX7 was available in a wine red variety with a black frame, swing arm, wheels, forks, mirrors, etc. When attempting to get a good photo of one from the interwebs I found out that there were possibly wine red 1991s and 1992s in various countries. In Europe or South Africa for instance. Some were labeled "Ninja" and others were labeled "ZXR." The only brochure I have from Canada is actually from 1992 and it has a very small picture of a wine bike. Here is my attempt to photo it. Keep in mind the actual picture is smaller than a business card.

The wine red version on the Canadian brochure (above) is labeled "ZXR" but the lime green version is a Ninja. Someone from Canada---is this correct? Did they hit the showrooms this way? Please let us know. Here are the cover and a couple pics of the Ninja pages.

The sales market for this one is unknown to me but here is a "J" model in wine red labeled as a "Ninja."

Of course the lime green is the iconic color scheme most people know but I have always appreciated the alternate colors too.

Last, if anyone is interested, as of this post there is a copy of the 1992 ZX7/ZX7R brochure for sale on my eBay page.

1991 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7 & ZX7R Brochure + Bonus

Preliminary brochure from the dealer sales binder for the 1991 ZX750-J1 ZX7 and ZX750-K1 ZX7R. There was no picture of the all-new ZX7R until the actual brochure was released (see below).

The final brochure including a very small image of the ZX7R. Have a look at the brochure and then for a better look at the ZX7R see one of the videos below.

If you have already watched the video included on the previous post (1990 ZX750-H1 Brochure) then you have seen this. If you have not watched it, it is a racing documentary by Kawasaki created in 1990. Near the end of the video a glimpse is given of the 1991 ZX7 & ZX7R. The following embed of the video is queued up to that glimpse.

For an added bonus we have a Kawasaki promo glossy of Steve Crevier.

Since I now have the first three years of the ZX7 brochures posted I have added a page with thumbnails to link to the posts. Check it out here:

Also, if anyone is interested, as of this post a couple copies of the 1991 ZX7/ZX7R brochure are for sale on my eBay page.

UPDATE 03-04-2022:

Here is a short clip from YouTube posted by someone lucky enough to have a 1991 ZX-7R. 1m13s

1990 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-7 ZX750-H2 Brochure & Bonus

At first glance the 1990 ZX7 is very similar to the '89 but in reality it is not. Visually we see the lime green mirrors and the added decal on the upper fairing just below the windscreen. I knew there had to be more to it so I started to compare the parts lists. After looking at 3 or 4 pages I had seen enough. The airbox, cams, carbs, and wiring harness were all different part numbers. This is by no means where the differences stop--I just had seen enough for my answer. On to the eye candy. First we have the sales brochure. Below the preliminary brochure from the dealer marketing binder.

Next we have the preliminary version of the brochure from the dealer sales marketing binder. It is well worn and was poorly taped as a repair. The tape has stickiness leaking from the edges so I was unable to remove it from the page protector for the photos. Regardless of the page protector, yes, they really did use a blurry version of the cover image.

This is a racing documentary Kawasaki created in 1990 covering the Eddie Lawson era up to the Chandler/Russell era. It also gives a sneak peak of the upcoming 1991 ZX7 ∧ ZX7R for 1991. Source is a VHS tape but the quality is fairly good.

Finally we have a picture that I had to source from the interwebs. Neither the 1989 nor the 1990 ZX7 brochure have a good shot of the taillight. It has a distinctive shape and was only used on the 89-90 ZX7.
