First up is the 1974 G4TR-D 100cc dual purpose motorcycle. The G4 was somewhat unique in that it had high and low range gearing. This is referred to in some listings as a "Quick Change Subtransmission." The brochure simply calls it "two-way change-over system" for "a total of ten gear ratios." The G4TR was offered from 1970 through 1975. 1975 was the final year for models with the old style model designation (e.g.: Z1, G5, F7,...). So, in 1976 the G4TR was renamed the KV100-A7. The 1976 KV100 was a one-year model and also had the Quick Change Subtransmission.
Here we have the 1991 KE100-B10.
Counting it's previous incarnations this was the 19th year for this model. (1972~75 G5, 1976~1981 KE100-A, 1982~ KE100-B). From what I can tell the KE100 lasted up to 2001 and ended with the KE100-B20. I would not at all be surprised if it was still being sold in other markets.
Another KE100 memory... This was one of those models that were shipped from Kawasaki two-per-crate. What that means for the assembly & prep person is that there are far more parts to assemble. The factory made two motorcycles fit into the crate by leaving a lot off. As much as I would love to be assembling new bikes again (and test riding them) I would not want to doing KE100s at the "flat-rate" pay. The flat-rate time might cover the uncrating, unwrapping/sorting/laying out the parts, and taking out all the trash (if you're lucky).
Thanks for looking. Gary / kawasaki-yama-zuki
