In 1986 there were three big, fast Kaws to choose from. Do you pick a 900 Ninja or Eliminator? Or do you choose the 1000 Ninja? I suppose you could also mention the Concours ZG1000 which had the same type of engine but that is another debate. Lets focus the Ninja 600 and 900.
The brochure mentions "...The Power ..To Disappear" which is actually reused from a couple years earlier. (see bonus)
The 1986 600R--what a great looking bike. We sold a lot of these. It was also offered in a red/white variety (the blue and red paint sections were reversed).
Back at this time the manufacturers still felt comfortable boasting about the bike's performance right in the brochure. "Just 10.55" in a standing 1/4 mile and in a desert test "Magazine testers witnessed a top speed of 153.1 mph."
On this Kawasaki poster they say "Ninja It Gives You The Power To Disappear" along with making part of the bodywork disappear so we get a peak at the engine. The poster is dated 1984 and shows the '85 model. It is Kawasaki part number 99941-1119. Let us know if you locate any.
I think the "Power to disappear" is my favorite Ninja slogan. Next is probably the "Change of underwear not included" one.
Also from Kawasaki, this poster, which is a reprint of an ad they ran in Motor Cyclist magazine, shows our Ninja with an actual ninja. If there is a date on this one it was matted over. This might be from 1983 or 84 as it shows the '84 model.
The bad angle of the poster photos is due to them being hung in the hall leading to my office. Photographing them dead on was prevented by the reflections from the glass. Sitting at my desk I have a great view of them and that works for me.
